Participants

The 16 participants have been selected from both participating countries, in order to insure the right level of cross-cultural exchange and mutual understanding, as well as the fair representation of knowledge and experience with each market. They represent a balance between gender, nationalities and the kind of project.


Niels Andersen Dolmer

Bio:  Niels is a European animation professional working on developing ideas and projects for animation, with a sensitivity for both vigorous humor and depth.

He possesses an extensive experience in storyboarding, a Bachelor in Character Animation from The Animation Workshop and has also attended Animation Sans Frontiers and La Poudrière´s 11 week course in script-writing and concept development.

Julie H. Baltzer

Bio:  Julie Herdichek Baltzer is a character animation graduate of year 2017 from The Animation Workshop, Viborg, Denmark.

She has directed her bachelor-film Nachthexen that has been selected to multiple festivals, including Annecy, AniFilm and Anima Mundi.

She is currently freelancing and developing various projects.


Louise Bentsen

Bio:  Louise Bentsen is a design student in her last semester studying a bachelor degree in Game- and Production Design at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Art School of Design in Copenhagen.

Design for animation to the screen is her primary focus and in addition she has worked on projects with animation, games and fiction film in teams together with the students from the National Film School of Denmark and True Max Academy.

Mads Vadsholt

Short:  Mads is from Copenhagen, Denmark. He has a Bachelor in Computer Graphics Arts from The Animation Workshop.

His passion lies is in video games, but he loves anything art related. His personal work is abstract and strange because his mind is a bit twisted. Nevertheless, people seem to like it. 

He has most experience with Sound Design, Visual Development and Computer Graphics.


Jonas Byrresen & Stefan Lindgren

Bio:  The small creative team being sent to Nippon Nordic, the game Director Jonas Byrresen and the Art Director Stefan Lindgren, can best be described as a pair experienced developers, as well as consumers of media, game and nerd culture.

They have worked both together on game productions, but also have experience with other teams.

Jonas is the current creative Director for Bedtime Digital Games. Stefan is the art director with a passion for making solid pre-productions.

Bob Kristiansen

Bio:  Bob Lundgreen Kristiansen is a cartoonist from the northern part of Jutland in Denmark. He graduated from The Animation Workshop in 2017 with a degree in Graphic storytelling.

Bob primarily writes, illustrates and works with visual development. He is a member of the secret society of Ghostscouts and spent 3 months interning in the wilderness of Vermont at GhostShrimp Global.

Before venturing into the creative arts he sailed around Europe and studied business law and economics. Sailing has given him a thirst for adventure and when he can’t find one out there, he will simply make one up.


Tomas Præstholm

Bio: Tomas Præstholm was born in 1985. He is a freelance concept artist and illustrator from Denmark.

He graduated from the Animation Workshop in 2010 as a Computer Graphics Artist. Since then, he has been working in pre-production for games and as an illustrator for children/young adult books, doing colorful, expressive work for a variety of clients.

Nicolas Guarin & Julia Ai Sai

Bio:  

Nicolás Guarín:
Colombian filmmaker. Moved to Japan in 2012 to pursue graduate studies in animated documentary. Worked for 4 years in Colombian TV as creative, scriptwriter and director. Nowadays, he is a PhD student at Tokyo University of Arts.

Julia Ai Sai:
Japanese designer. After studying traditional art in Alaska, Julia attend Kyoto Seika University in Japan and the California College of Arts in U.S.A where she majored in Textiles. Since 2010, she has been working as a freelance artist and designer

Kensuke Shimoda

Bio:  A professional game designer. He started his career at Square Enix as a junior game designer of “Final Fantasy XI” in 2005. He created combat contents and the cutscenes of a quest which was admired by the players.

He started his own business in 2010 which gave him a role as the lead game designer. A football simulator “BFB” which was designed by him won the 1st in Hong Kong App Store for a long time. Now he is making his original games which has unique stories and characters.


Iku Ogawa

Bio:  Born in Tokyo in 1988.

He finished animation master’s course of Graduate School of Film and New Media Tokyo University of the Arts.

He started creating the stop motion animation at graduate school.

“I think you’re a little confused” was screened at 62th International Short Film Festival Oberhausen and Aichi Triennale 2016 and was well appreciated. He joined Dwarf inc. in 2016.

Kazue Monno

Bio:  Kazue Monno (Japan) has been part of the creative duo Tochka from1998.

They invented an animation method called PiKA PiKA, which is a combination of long-exposure photography and stop-motion animation. It enables everyone tomake animations by drawing in the air with penlights.

The first film “Pika Pika Lightning doodle project”(2006) received the Grand prix in the Lab Competition at the International Short Film Festival, Clermont-Ferrand 2008.


Takeshi Nagata

Bio:  Takeshi Nagata (Japan) has been part of the creative duo Tochka. They invented an animation method called PiKA PiKA. It enables everyone to make animations by drawing in the air with penlights.

He is active as an animation designer and CG director of TV animation programs and games.

He is an Associate Professor at the department of Digital Games at the Osaka Electro-Communication University. Track received the Grand Prix at Holland Animation Film Festival 2016.

Takashi Uchida

Bio:  Takashi Uchida is an animator/writer/director based in Los Angeles. He graduated USC School of Cinematic Arts with an emphasis on post-production and animation.

He has directed couple of animation shorts and most recent animation short "Waterstop" has been selected to screen at Portland film festival.

He also has designed concept art for several short films, including as “Susie Sunshine” and “The Lost City of tomorrow”.

As an editor, he has worked on multiple feature films, including "Actors Anonymous", starring James Franco, and "Jessica Darling´s IT LIST", which is based on New York Times best seller teen novel, starring YouTube star Chloe East.

He also has edited Netflix Original animation series “Kong: King of the Apes”, directed by Moto Sakakibara.

The most recent film he has edited, “The Mad Whale”, also stars James Franco, and notable actors including Camilla Belle and Summer Phoenix.


Kaoru Furuko

Bio:  Kaoru Furuko is a Japanese animation / illustration artist based in Stockholm. She uses various techniques and formats for her work such as short film, installation, performance, and stage art.

One of her focuses is a series of works using stop-motion animation in which she visualizes oral tradition, mythology, folk tales and social and cultural phenomena using collected objects from nature and cultural environments. She has traveled and lived in several countries where she has done inspirational research and collected materials for her animation projects.

Her work has been screened internationally at film festivals.
